My art work is in a fancy museum—in the Gender Fluid section!

A short video from The Drag Explosion is included in a  big new exhibit at ICP – International Center of Photography called “Perpetual Revolution: Image and Social Change.”

The video, which is juxtaposed in a large collage, got a mention in a New York Times review (by Holland Carter)!

The “Drag Explosion” video is in the bottom right corner.

A new exhibit, “Gay Gotham,” currently on display at the Museum of the City of New York through February, “brings to life the queer creative networks that sprang up in the city across the 20th century.” And guess what—The show includes a photo from The Drag Explosion!

The photo is part of a timeline map of the East Village and indicates the address of The Pyramid Club (The photo was taken in the club's dressing room in 1992.)

That photo and two others that I took of RuPaul at the Pyramid all appear in a book published in conjunction with the exhibit. (By Donald Albrecht and Stephen Vider.)

I also recently took part in a stimulating panel discussion at the museum, including showing some of my photos, about the ongoing importance of queer nightlife in New York City.

Thanks so much to the museum for having me! The place has had a recent renovation and looks fabulous!

It was an uptown event so I wore a gown!

New Museum Debut!

It was a honor for me to be including last week in a multi-media reading at NYC’s New Museum. The event was part of a series called “Lost & Found,” examining the impact of AIDS on generations of artists. (Curated by dance world visionary Ishmael Houston-Jones.)

Thanks for having me, Ishmael!

I showed slides from The Drag Explosion about the underground magazine I used to publish, My Comrade. Founded in 1987, at the peak of the AIDS crisis, the magazine featured a campy militant format that heralded drag queens as heroes of the gay revolution.

Showing my slideshow.

All the panelists were fantastic, and it was very cathartic to share and discuss our collective loss–and celebrate our survival!

Copenhagen, I Love You!

I had such a wonderful time in Copenhagen, which is an absolute jewel of a city.

The setting for my presentation of The Drag Explosion was Warehouse9, a performance space located in the former Meatpacking District. It was a fantastic turn-out!  Great Danes galore!

Afterwards, everyone socialized outside on the cobblestone street. Thank goodness I wore sensible shoes!

I couldn’t have asked for a better European debut for The Drag Explosion. Makes me want to tour even more!

My Danish is not exactly fluent so I’ll be yakking in my native tongue.

It’s an entire evening of fun, with other drag performers and DJs.

The location is the performance space Warehouse9, located at Halmtorvet 11C.

The date is Saturday, August 13th, at 8:30pm. It’s free, donations gladly accepted!
